Anirban Kapil Baishya received his early art training at the Gauhati Artist's Guild in Assam, India. He secretly started painting on the walls of his home to take advantage of the large scales afforded by the surfaces. He held his first exhibition of paintings at the Gauhati Artist's Guild Gallery in 2004. He studied at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University and subsequently pursued a PhD in cinema and media studies at the School of Cinematic Arts, University of Southern California. He works in oil, acrylic and watercolor. His work mostly focuses on the human body in states of dramatic tension or disintegration as a manifestation of mental states and philosophical concepts. Now a practicing academic and teacher at Fordham University, he paints on the side to stay sane.
